Depression Requires Mental Fitness

A person who suffers from depression or anxiety can certainly relate to the times when you stare off into space, thinking about past mistakes, or unimaginable future situations. It can consume you. Your mind focuses on these thoughts for hours at a time, until you simply want to crawl into bed to escape and get relief from the feelings.

A person who is depressed, truly believes they are incapable to find a way past these horrific feelings of despair. Though I am here to tell you, that you certainly can. You can come all the way through those feelings and put depression behind you. It’s not easy and it’s not going to happen in the blink of an eye, but you can do it! Introduction

Roughly 1 in 10 people suffer from Depression.

Depression either affects you or someone you know. It is estimated that the number of people affected by depression, is growing by 20% each year. The issue is growing and there are not many clear answers from the health industry, to explain why. This has left many individuals and families searching for answers.

I myself, was depressed for several years. I was diagnosed with both depression and anxiety. I was prescribed medication to treat it. In fact, I was diagnosed in 2 different cities and the doctors in each city, each prescribed different medications. This “medication juggling” if you will, is common for those who suffer from mental health disorders. Which only further points to the fact that there is so little clarity on the correct way to treat the issue.

For me, the reliance on the medication to not feel depressed or anxious, led to an addiction problem. I found myself making poor decisions and couldn’t possibly see a way in which I could live a normal happy life. I sank further and further into self-pity and lashed out at the world around me. I destroyed relationships, job opportunities and led myself down a long dark tunnel of despair.

However, the good news is, I managed to overcome my battle with depression. I was able to get off of the medications. I was able to put the pieces of the broken puzzle, that was my life, back together. It took time and it took lots of persistent action. There were good days and tough days, and yet, I was able to persevere.

Because of this, I am starting this blog to help relay what I learned through my battle with depression and the road to recovery. It has been nearly 10 years now, which not only shows depression can be overcome, but that it can be left behind for good!

I am not a doctor, nor do I claim to know what is right for each individual suffering from a mental health issue. What I will offer, is my own insights and the tools that I used to help me overcome depression. I hope there will be some value in this blog for you or someone you know. It is my sincere wish, that through my experience someone else will find their way through the darkness of depression and come out the other side.
